Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety
What is AI?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is technology that can create text, images, videos, music and answer questions. Many children already use AI without realising it through search engines, apps, games, video platforms and voice assistants.
AI can be an exciting and useful tool for learning, creativity and problem-solving. However, it is important that children understand how to use AI safely, responsibly and critically. AI systems can make mistakes, provide inaccurate information and should never replace trusted adults, teachers or professional advice.
Guidance for Parents and Carers
AI is becoming increasingly common in the apps, games and websites children use every day. While AI can support learning and creativity, children still need guidance and supervision when using these technologies.
How you can help
Talk about AI
Help your child understand that AI is a computer program and not a real person. Discuss how AI can make mistakes and why information should always be checked.
Stay involved
Take an interest in the apps, games and websites your child uses. Explore new technologies together and encourage open conversations about their online experiences.
Encourage critical thinking
Teach children to question what they see online and not to assume that AI-generated content is always accurate or trustworthy.
Review privacy settings
Check privacy controls on devices, apps and online accounts. Ensure children understand the importance of protecting personal information.
Set clear expectations
Agree sensible rules for using AI tools at home, including when they can be used and when children should seek help from an adult instead.
Seymour Park's AI Safety Message
At Seymour Park Community Primary School, we believe AI will play an important role in our children's futures. We want pupils to be curious, creative and confident users of technology while also understanding how to stay safe online.
Our approach is simple:
STOP – THINK – CHECK – ASK
STOP before sharing information.
THINK about whether the content is trustworthy.
CHECK information using reliable sources.
ASK a trusted adult if you are unsure.
Together, we can help children develop the skills they need to use AI safely, responsibly and confidently.
